Eminem the true Rap God

Marshall Bruce Mathers 3.0, better known as Eminem,  is easily on the list of most famous and influential rappers around the globe (third time’s a charm, they say), being one of the “best-selling music artists of all time” and having ten albums reach #1 on the Billboard 200. He was born on October 17, 1972 as an only child to Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr. and Deborah Rae.

He grew up with an absent father, and never had a permanent home. Moreover, his mother apparently suffered from Münchausen Syndrome by proxy and falsely made him believe he was sick in order to be able to get prescription drugs to abuse, which he also explained is the reason why he was an addict.

He initially dreamt of becoming a comic artist before developing an interest in rap. He gradually rose to fame throughout the late 90s, from teaming up with  Proof and four other rappers; forming the “Dirty Dozen”; getting signed to F.B.T. Productions where he recorded, “Infinite”; to winning 2nd place in the 1997 Rap Olympics.

Dr. Dre immediately looked to sign Eminem after hearing the Slim Shady EP, and then in 1999 under Interscope records, Eminem released the Slim Shady LP which won Best Rap Album and has now been certified 4x platinum by the RIAA.

Its opening song “My Name Is” won the Grammy award for Best Rap Solo Performance and peaked at #10 on the Billboard Rap Songs chart. Since then, Eminem became one of the most controversial rappers in history, always stirring the pot by dissing celebrities in his songs as Slim Shady, but also one of the most influential rappers.
