WHO IS LAURYN HILL

Before fame, Lauryn Hill was a daughter to teacher mom Valerie, and consultant dad Mal Hill. She was born to a musically gifted family on 26 May, 1975 in New Jersey.

She sang the national anthem before a basketball game in middle school, was a contestant on “It’s Showtime at the Apollo”, took classes for violin and dance, and started a gospel choir at school.

Her career began with forming a group with Pras Michel, called the “Translator Crew”, performing in local talent shows.

Before the group became the “Fugees”, Lauryn took acting lessons, appeared in a soap opera, and even co-starred in a film with Whoopi Goldberg.

After the birth of the well-known, “Fugees”, the group signed a record deal with Ruffhouse Records. They released their second album and first #1 Billboard 200 topper, “The Score”, in 1996.

After the group split up a year later, Lauryn Hill got married and had a child with one of Bob Marley’s sons, Rohan.

Her debut solo album, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”, was released in August 1998.

The album was received so well by the public, it reached #1 in two Billboard charts and was certified 8x platinum by the RIAA.

The most critically single in the album, “Doo-Wop”, has secured Lauryn’s spot on the list of the greatest female rappers of all time.

Since then, she hasn’t released another studio album, but has been going on tours after spending some time away from the perils of being a celebrity.
