Alicia Keys the role model

Words cannot begin to describe how much of a role model Alicia Keys has been to women across the globe. Singer-songwriter, actress, author, activist, philanthropist, girl on fire, etc. Makes you wonder, “what can’t she do?” She was born and raised in Hell’s Kitchen, surrounded by crime and poverty.

Alicia had a strong passion for music from a young age. She sang in her school’s musical productions, started playing the piano, and participated in various extracurricular activities all focused on performing arts.

She even took classes in the Professional Performing Arts School at age twelve. At 15, she signed with Columbia Records who, during the time of her involvement with them, were too busy trying to shape her into the artist they wanted her to be, not the artist she wanted to be.

After a long-winded struggle to get out of a toxic work environment, she finally broke free of them and with the help of Clive Davis, was able to rise to fame with ease.

She released “Songs in A Minor” in 2001, which debuted as #1 on Billboard’s 200, making her that year’s best-selling new artist.

It included several songs that Columbia Records rejected before, so we can only imagine the label swallowing their pride now. Alicia has released 7 studio albums in total so far, all topping the charts and five getting certified at least platinum by the RIAA.

She has appeared in so many television shows and films for the last two decades, not only that, but has also co-founded “Keep A Child Alive”, as well as shown support for several charitable works.
