DRAKE BIOGRAPHY

Drake was born on October 24, 1986 in Toronto, Canada and was raised there by his mother Sandra Graham, since his parents divorced when he was five years of age and his father spent years in jail for drug-related charges.

He used to play minor hockey when he lived on Weston Road before he moved to Forest Hill, a rather prestigious neighbourhood for someone who started from the bottom, and took up acting at Forest Hill Collegiate Institute.

He went to Vaughan Road Academy later on, where he states he was bullied for his race and religion. He dropped out in order to focus on acting when he landed a role on Degrassi: The Next Generation at 15, where he appeared in a hundred episodes as Jimmy Brooks and first gained his popularity.

He decided to move on from being in the series to prioritising having a career in music after self-releasing his first mixtape “Room For Improvement” in 2006, featuring Lupe Fiasco and Trey Songz. Two more mixtapes later, he gained commercial success, having two singles from the third mixtape certified Gold by RIAA. Lil Wayne signed him into Young Money Entertainment soon after, where he would release “Thank Me Later” and “Take Care”, along with other albums that have secured his position as one of the best-selling artists while at the same time, giving life to the “Toronto sound”.

As of late, he has won 180 awards out of 639 nominations, four of them being Grammys, as well as having so many Billboard chart records. Besides having a flourishing music and acting career, he currently co-owns OVO sportswear line.
