WHO IS KENDRICK LAMAR

Kendrick Lamar Duckworth was born in Compton, California on June 17th 1987. The former straight-A student released his first mixtape at 16 which secured a record deal with TDE (Top Dawg Entertainment), whom he is still with today.

Over the next few years K-Dot would steadily gain industry recognition, releasing numerous mixtapes, collaborating with Game, touring with underground legend Tech N9ne and becoming one quarter of the Hip Hop supergroup Black Hippy comprised of fellow TDE labelmates Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q and Jay Rock.

Every project Kendrick has released has been met with overwhelming critical success, as he infuses different genres from 80’s West Coast Hip Hop to Funk and soul, all the while speaking on conscious subject matter like social injustice, black empowerment and gang culture.

Kendrick has an impressive amount of award wins including 13 Grammy’s, 6 Billboard Music Awards, 2 AMA’s and also the first non-classical or jazz artist to be awarded the legendary Pulitzer Prize for Music. It is safe to say that Kendrick is one (if not the) most successful and influential artists of his generation, inspiring many new and existing (David Bowie for one) artists, making him a legend in the game.

Proving how much he knows a dollar costs, it has been made known in a Complex article that Kendrick charges at least $250,000 for a guest verse. You know what they say... if you’re good at something, don’t do it for free!
