WHO IS KID CUDI

Kid Cudi was born in Cleveland on the 30th of January, 1984 as Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi.

He was the youngest of four children to Elsie Harriet and Lindberg Styles Mescudi, who are a choir teacher and house painter respectively.

His father, who aside from giving houses a pop of colour was also a veteran, died of cancer when Cudi was 11.

This affected his personality and would later have an influence on his music. He was particularly inspired to rap by the groups A Tribe Called Quest and The Pharcyde, so he moved and stayed at his uncle's in New York where he would meet Kanye West. It wasn’t until he wrote “Day ‘n’ Nite” that Kanye would really take notice of the budding artist.

He signed with GOOD Music after that, and his first mixtape was released in 2008. He appeared as a cameo in several music videos, had produced a soundtrack for a video game, and eventually released his first studio album, “Man on the Moon: The End of Day”, under Universal Motown Records in 2009.

The album itself reached #4 on the Billboard 200, while it contained “Day ‘n’ Nite”, which charted at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been certified 5x platinum by the RIAA.

Besides music, he has also ventured into the fashion business, collaborating with BAPE and Surface to Air to sell merchandise, as well as representing Coach Inc. for its Spring campaign.

Moreover, he has acted in several films, 17 to be exact! He’s talented, but did you know: he confessed to failing miserably at playing musical instruments, no matter how hard he tried. We all have our weaknesses, Cudi
