WHO IS LIL UZI VERT

Symere Woods was born (and raised) in Philadelphia on July 31, 1994. While he grew up listening to hip-hop, he was also immersed in the emo culture, listening to Paramore; MCR; Smash Mouth; and the likes.

His music career began with a series of events that would lead him to taking rapping seriously, from creating a rap group with his classmates; dropping out of school; getting kicked out of the house; and subsequently getting his first ever face tattoo.

He released his first EP, “Purple Thoughtz”, in January 2014, catching the attention of hip-hop collectives. His first mixtape, “The Real Uzi”, was released under The Academy imprint before he eventually signed to Atlantic Records. In 2016, trio Migos featured Woods in their single, “Bad and Boujee”, which is his first taste of chart-topping on the Billboard.

A few weeks later, he released the EP, “Luv is Rage 1.5” via Soundcloud to tease listeners on the upcoming release of “Luv is Rage 2”. After a long delay, the studio album came out in late August of 2017 with the hit song, “XO Tour Llif3”, as its lead single.

The album ranked 13th on the Billboard 50 Best Albums of 2017,  reached #1 on both Billboard’s 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and got certified double-platinum.

He had recently released “Eternal Atake” in March this year as his second studio album, which also debuted atop the Billboard 200.

Just a little outside of his music career, he has asked other artists for help on building a foundation that would support the late XXXTentacion’s family, against gun violence.

Whether or not they came through, at least the rapper has brought awareness to the public about the issue.
