WHO IS NAS
Nas, born Nasir Bin Olu Dara Jones is a 13 times Grammy nominated Hip Hop artist Hailing from Brooklyn, New York.
Born to a family of virtuosos consisting Fannie Ann, and Mississippi Jazz artist, Olu Jones, with another musically inclined brother Jabari Fret, a rapper named Jungle and is a member of the Hip Hop group Bravehearts... no wonder Nas has become an award winning artist!
As a child Nas and his family relocated to Queens, where he would be introduced into the world of Hip Hop by his neighbour and childhood best friend Willy “Ill Will” Graham, whom Nas would later pay respect to by naming the record label Ill Will Records in his honour, after his untimely death in 1992, which only proves how much rappers love their bros.
Nas first became known after appearing as a feature artist on Main Source’s “Live at the barbeque”. He later signed a deal with Columbia Records with help from his manager MC Serch of 3rd Bass. His debut album “Illmatic” would receive worldwide critical acclaim and is consistently regarded as one of the Greatest Hip Hop albums of all time.
He also had a hugely publicised feud with fellow New York Rapper Jay-Z, which spanned several years. 11 Studio albums later and Nasty Nas is still regarded as one of the best lyricists to have ever held a mic, Ranked 2nd by the Source on their list “Top 50 Lyricists of all time” and 5th on MTV’s “The Greatest Rappers of all time”.
