WHO IS NIPSEY HU$$LE

Ermias Joseph Asghedom, better known as Nipsey Hu$$le, was born on August 15th 1985 in Crenshaw, LA, CA. He was one of the many rappers who took to activism during his career, and denounced gun violence through his work in the music industry, which is a turnaround for an artist who had had experiences with gang culture since his teenage years, as he became a member of the Rollin 60’s Neighborhood Crips at 14.

Nipsey’s rapping career began in 2005 with the release of his first mixtape, “Slauson Boy Volume 1”, with which he gained a fanbase on the west coast and got signed to Epic Records and Cinematic Music Group.

After a few collaborations and leaving the label for financial reasons, he released a series of mixtapes under his very own record label, All Money In. His best, “Crenshaw”, was released on October 2013 and peaked at #63 on the Billboard 200. In 2017, Nipsey co-founded and opened a clothing store with Steve Carless, Karen Civil and his brother Samiel, called the Marathon Clothing store.

A year later following more mixtapes, he released his debut and only studio album, “Victory Lap”,  which debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200, hosting chart-topping singles such as “Dedication” and “Double Up”. It peaked a year later at #2 on the chart, just after his untimely death in 2019.
