ASAP ROCKY BIOGRAPHY

Rakim Athelaston Mayers better known by his stage name A$AP Rocky was born on October 3rd 1988 in Harlem, New York.

Mayers was taught how to rap by his older brother but after his brother was killed, Mayers started to take music seriously.

If having his brother killed when he was only 13 was not difficult enough, he along with his mother and his sister were homeless moving from shelter to shelter.

Despite the hardships he had endured, Mayers persevered and in 2007 joined the Hip Hop collective A$AP Mob, where he would adopt his moniker.

It would take Rocky 4 years to have his music noticed with the release with the songs ‘Purple Swag’ and ‘Peso’, the former becoming a street anthem in New York and the latter receiving radio play on Hot 97.

This would lead Rocky signing a major record deal and in 2013 he released his debut studio album ‘Long. Live. A$AP.’ which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and became certified double platinum.

The critical acclaimed album also boasted his biggest single to date, the Grammy nominated ‘F*ckin’ Problems’. Rocky’s follow up album ‘At Long.

Last. A$AP’ would also debut at number one proving he was not a one hit wonder and cementing himself as one of the biggest rappers of the decade.
