Despite the name, no, he doesn’t have a PhD. He has, however, a net worth of $800M as of 2019, is the founder and CEO of Aftermath Entertainment and Beats Electronics, and a whole lotta fame.
Straight outta Compton where he was born and raised, the famous Andre Romel Young started out being in the World Class Wreckin’ Cru before being in the N.W.A. where he, along with DJ Yella, becomes better known as a gangsta rapper.
He later meets Ice Cube, with whom he then collaborates to record songs for Ruthless Records. Having produced for equally famous artists such as Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Tupac and others, he is considered one of the most versatile artists out there, constantly spicing up his production style while still being able to preserve the elements that originally made him the legend he is now although, it has been acknowledged that he isn’t as equipped to write the lyrics and has ghostwriters doing the magic.
Nevertheless, he got 26 Grammy nominations and won 6 of them, 3 of which were for his production. Among these three winning productions was the immortal album The Marshall Mathers LP. Dr Dre. is also a philanthropist, having provided the University of Southern California $70M to create Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation.
Praises aside, Dr. Dre gained a reputation for multiple accusations of violence against women. Outside celeb life, he is a father to a total of 7 children. One of his sons died in 2008 from an overdose.
