WHO IS FAT JOE
Fat Joe was born Joseph Antonio Cartagena on August 19th, 1970 in the Bronx, New York but traded in the cold weather for the hot climate of Miami.
Joe released his debut album in 1993 called, “Represent”, with the lead single, “Flow Joe” peaking at number one on the Billboard Hot Rap Single Chart. Two years later he released his second album “Jealous Ones’ Envy” which peaked at number 71 on the Billboard 200 with the lead single “success” ironically not charting. However, his follow up single, “Envy” peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100.
To date Fat Joe has released 10 studio albums to varying degrees of success, he was arguably at the height of his success during the mid-2000’s. During this period he would receive 3 of his 5 Grammy nominations for the songs “What’s Luv?” featuring Ashanti, “Lean Back” with Terror Squad and “Make it Rain” featuring Lil Wayne.
Joe can also be credited with the discovery of one of rap's greatest lyricists, fellow Latino, the late great Big Pun after he was featured on Fat Joe's track, “Watch Out”.
Joe would later sign Pun to his record label and a close friendship would form, they would record several tracks, most notably “Deep Cover 98” and even got arrested together. That’s luv.
