WHO IS JA RULE

Jeffrey Bruce Atkins was born on the 29th of February, 1976 in Queens, New York. Ja Rule came into the rap scene in 1994 as a member of a Hip-Hop group, “Cash Money Click”.

Not long after the group was dropped from TVT, Ja Rule was signed to Def Jam Records by Irv Gotti who, at the time, was just recently hired as an A&R for the label. His debut single as a soloist, “Holla Holla”, was released in early 1999.

Upon release, it peaked at #35 on the Billboard Hot 100 and hyped up its hosting album, “Venni Vetti Vecci”, which was released just a few months after the single.

His next two albums, “Rule 3:36” and “Pain is Love”, have brought him into the spotlight on an international level, both peaking at #1 on the Billboard 200 and Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.

He has won a BET Award for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist in 2002, as well as an MTV Video Music Award for Best Hip-Hop Music Video that same year.

During the duration of his music career, he has had four Grammy Awards nominations. Besides being an accomplished rapper, Ja Rule has also acted in films such as “Turn it Up” with Jason Statham; “The Fast and the Furious”; and “Once Upon a Time in Brooklyn”.
