WHO IS LANA DEL REY

We have our Sparkle Jump Rope Queen on the list of influential artists to talk about. Lana del Rey popularised baroque and dream pop music and vintage aesthetic the moment her single, “Video Games”, became viral in 2011. Lana was born Elizabeth Woolridge Grant on 21 June of ‘85, in Manhattan.

She started singing and writing songs during the time she lived with her aunt and uncle, when she was taught how to play guitar by the latter.

At first, she liked performing underground, and wasn’t too keen on pursuing a serious music career. After graduating from Fordham University, she released an EP as Lizzy Grant through 5 Points Records titled, “Kill Kill”.

In 2010, she released her debut studio album, “Lana del Rey”. Her releases up to this point didn’t gain as much attention as the next one would.

Lana started uploading music videos she filmed by herself with a webcam, including her breakout songs, “Video Games” and “Blue Jeans”.

She signed a joint deal with Interscope Records and Polydor that same year, and through these labels released her second album, “Born to Die”.

The album reached #2 on the Billboard 200, and #1 on the UK Albums chart, gaining 4x Platinum status in the UK and 2x Platinum status in eight other countries.

Lana has released a total of seven albums to date, and won 27 awards among which are two Brit awards for International Breakthrough Act and International Female Solo Artist.
