WHO IS RIHANNA
Robyn Rihanna Fenty, singer, actress and tycoon, was born in St. Michael Barbados on 20th February, 1988 to Monica and Ronald Fenty, who was a literal pain in the head for Rihanna, to the point where doctors thought her migraines were caused by a tumor. He was often physically violent to her mother and under the influence of either alcohol or crack cocaine.
The headaches eventually left with him after Rihanna’s parents divorced. Rihanna was in a sub-military programme in her teens as an army cadet with Shontelle. She chose music later on, over graduating after having been discovered by Evan Rogers and recording a demo tape that was later shipped out to Def Jam.
After hearing the demos, and then seeing Rihanna audition, Jay-Z and Def Jam boss L.A. Reid didn’t let her leave the office until she had signed the contract. Her debut single “Pon de Replay” was released in 2005, and she was just a year short of being 18. The single immediately became everyone’s jam, charting globally and ranking 1st on the Billboard Dance Club Songs. BUT, that’s just the beginning.
Her third album “Good Girl Gone Bad” was released in 2007, becoming the most critically acclaimed out of all three albums and topping charts worldwide. Her lead single “Umbrella” become the #1 hit in the U.K. for 10 weeks straight, and sold over 8M copies.
To date, Rihanna is known not only as a pop star and sex symbol, but also an ambassador in Barbados and a successful businesswoman who has launched Fenty Beauty, an actual all-inclusive cosmetic line and Sauvage X Fenty an all-inclusive underware line.
