WHO IS TUPAC SHAKUR
Another one of the most influential rappers known to mankind who is also a figure of activism, Tupac Shakur, was born Lesane Parish Crooks on June 16, 1971 until his mother decided to change his name a year later.
His parents Afeni Shakur and Billy Garland were passionate activists and were members of the Black Panther Party in the late 60’s to the early 70’s, which perfectly explains the kind of influence Tupac’s had during his career.
Once MC New York, he started recording in ’89 while attending poetry classes held by Leila Steinberg who soon became his manager and got Digital Underground manager Atron Gregory to sign him as a backup dancer. He debuted as a solo artist in 1991 with the album “2Pacalypse Now” that inspired big artists like Eminem, and others.
Tupac formed Thug Life consisting of Big Syke, Diron Shivers, Walter Burns and Mopreme. The only album they released in 1994 gained Gold status. He truly became a legend with his album, “Me Against The World” in 1995, now considered to be a masterpiece and one of the greatest rap albums of all time.
That same year, he began to be involved in the rivalry between Death Row Records and Bad Boy Ent., after Biggie’s “Who Shot Ya” was released.
Biggie and himself continuously dissed each other in several tracks since then. He continued to impress the world with his album “All Eyez On Me”, being #1 in Billboard 200 and other charts and gaining multi-platinum status.
His death on September 1996 leaves an imprint globally as it’s followed with the release of his final album that was supposed to be underground, “The 7 Day Theory”, another of his albums to peak #1 on the charts and be certified 4x multi-platinum.
