Who is XXXTentacion
Another late rapper in our list, XXXTentacion, was a very controversial artist and a gifted singer/songwriter, known for his creative musical style which incorporates emo, lo-fi, nu metal and hip-hop.
His real name was Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy, born to the senior Onfroy and Cleopatra Bernard in January of 1998.
His interest in music was sparked by his aunt who strongly encouraged him to participate in choirs at school and church.
Jahseh met Stokeley Goulbourne in juvenile detention, and almost immediately, they became friends and rapping buddies.
They freestyled together in detention, and after their release met up again in anticipation of invading homes together.
However, Jahseh had a change of heart and bought a microphone to begin recording music, and Goulbourne later decided to do the same. XXXTentacion’s first song was released via Soundcloud titled, “Vice City”.
In 2014, he released his first EP, “The Fall”.
His career took off with the release of his debut album via Soundcloud, “Look at Me”, which peaked at #34 on the Billboard Hot 100.
One of the singles hosted in the album, “KMT”, brought him further into the limelight with the controversy surrounding Drake’s use of the same rap flow.
His best single, “SAD!”, peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with a 2x platinum certification by the RIAA.
Likewise, his best performing album is “?” charting #1 on the Billboard 200 and receiving a 3x platinum certification by the RIAA.
